Early || The Last Morning

What Would Getting Up Earlier in the Day Help me Accomplish?

Getting up earlier in the day - is that just an idea that will never fully come to pass, or is it something that must be worked at until it is accomlished?
Recently, I've been doing a 30 day Early to Rise challenge by Andy Traub, and I've been noticing how many limiting beliefs I've allowed to come into my mind and belive. I think that there's nothing wrong if I sleep in an extra hour, Nothing wrong if I waste most of the morning sleeping, and somehow I'm going to become successful without doing anything. What a lie!The truth is that the Bible   has many things to say about slothfulness, sleeping in late, and believing that work is not necessary.

Here's a few verses I found that speak of the importance of rising early, and the consequences of sleeping in just a little more.
  • “Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.” -Proverbs 19:15
  •  “By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.” -Ecclesiastes 10:18
  • “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.” -Proverbs 12:24
  • “As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.” -Proverbs 26:14
  • “Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.” -Proverbs 24:32-34

So what would getting up earlier in the day help me accomplish? From these verses we can see that there is no limit to the sucess, and blessings that come from rising early. You will be less likely to experience poverty. You will not be idle as much. You will tend to be more diligent, and you will tend to be more of a leader than a follower.
Now ask youself, when was the last time you heard of a famous or successful person that just loved sleeping in late as much as possible? A person that wasted their morning hours in favor of sleep? It's not very common is it? Why?
Because success in life both physically and Spiritually requires diligence. Here's a few of my favorite verses on the importance of diligence.
  • “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” -Deuteronomy 6:7
  • “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” -Proverbs 10:4
  • “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” -Proverbs 13:4
  • “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” -Proverbs 21:5
  • “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” -Proverbs 22:29
So now, based on these verses ask yourself, what would rising early accomplish for me?
  1. You can become better equipped to share and know the Word of The Lord. (Duet 6:7)
  2. You have more opportunity to become rich in substance, and knowledge. (Prov10:4)
  3. Your soul will be made “fat” in the knowledge of the goodness of The Lord. (Prov 13:4)
  4. Your thoughts will be clearer, and more profitable. Not so much focus on what you don't have. (Prov21:5)
  5. And lastly, you will stand physically and spiritually before kings, and righteous men, because you have been diligent and faithful in the little things. (Prov22:29)
So the next time we're tempted to sleep in late, to let the morning “go”, or to be slothful in our work; let's ask ourselves what would getting up earlier in the day help me accomplish? What kind of a life legacy am I leaving by the life I'm living today?
Let's choose to do the right thing, and break the pattern of sin and selfishness in our lives be living each day to the fullest. Making the most of each moment, and seeking God's face first thing in the morning. His mercies are new every morning, but sometimes our thoughts, and actions aren't. We must chose to hit the “refresh button” of our minds each day, and allow the sunlight of Christ's love to penetrate the darkness of our souls.
The future is not uncertain. It's a combination of the little choices we make each day. We must choose to live in the light of the goodness of Christ, and focus on using ALL of our time to make a difference for His glory. Because we never know how many mornings we have left.

“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? ” -Matthew 26:40

  1. Wow...what a great challenge! It is hard for me to rise early, especially when I don't go to bed on time, but I am so much more productive when I do get up early. Thanks for this practical encouragement!
