Family Economics Conference Washington:)

Recently my family and I had a wonderful time in Ocean Shores, Washington attending the Family Economics Conference. It was wonderful to hear encouraging messages from inspiring speakers, spend time together as a family, and (my personal favorite:) spending hours and hours talking, and swimming, and spending time on the beach with friends.

Anyhow, here's the pictures you've been waiting for:)
On the way to the conference, we saw this "gas truck" or maybe it wasn't gas:)

After the long trip to Ocean Shores, we arrived at our hotel, and Evan and I went exploring. We found this amazing antique car, and had a nice time taking with the owners.

Then on the walk back to our hotel, we saw some friends, and some deer who were just as friendly:)

Then we met up with the D. family, and went out for dinner, but we managed to make it to the ocean for the last bit of the sunset.

Evan wanted Amanda and I to try the "shadow picture" effect with the sunset in the backround, and I was pleased and surprised with the results:)

The next day we heard great messages from encouraging speakers, my favorite of whom was Kevin Swanson, and this was my favorite quote from his message.

"If there's anything in your life that's encouraging you to make material things into idols we must repent of this  idolatry, and focus on what the Bible says is right." -Kevin Swanson

After the conference that evening, we went out to dinner with some friends.
Bethany seemed amazed by the size of this pizza. (or maybe she was marveling at the fact that the pizza was almost bigger than her:) j/k

And Jordan was so hungry he almost ate the whole pizza in one bite :)

We all enjoyed a nice time together, and it was good to spend some time with the H. Family, before they moved to Idaho.

After dinner, we went back to our hotel, to get changed to go swimming with the S. family.
Evan and I couldn't help but notice our matching shoes:)

Outfitted for a wonderful swim... (Well, o.k. I guess I do need to shed the coat and scarf, but it was cold on the way to the S. family's hotel:)

We swam until almost midnight, and had a wonderful time, John H. even came to join us, which Evan and Jordan really enjoyed:) Then after swimming, and talking for quite a while, we said goodnight to the S. family, and then headed back to our hotel (with members of the V. and H.families that had joined us after we went swimming.) and did some four part singing until the wee hours of the morning. Needless to say, we had a wonderful day!

The next morning we were up earlier than we should have been to enjoy another great day, of inspiring speakers, and fellowship. My favorite speaker of the day was Danny Craig, who spoke directly to the hearts of young people. Here's my favorite quote from his message.

"How badly do you want wisdom? Don't ignore input. Go after wisdom with everything that you've got. Listen to your parents. God's not ready to entrust us with things if we have not been faithful to pursue what we can  right now. Learn from the wise people around you, and begin developing yourself. " -Danny Craig

It was great to spend time with friends I haven't seen for a while, although the time always seems to go by way to fast.

We were trying to take a group photo with "just us girls" but somehow this happened:)
At one point I thought we were going to have a group photo with the entire conference:)

After another late night (or should I say early?) talking, singing, reviewing memory verses, playing games, swimming, and traipsing to other people's hotels, we were glad to have a good night's rest.

The next morning, we headed out to the beach with the L. Family, and were surprised to find....
...the S. family, preparing to take an "arctic" swim in the ocean.
After much talking and trying to persuade them from their present course of action, we gave up, and went for a couple mile run down the beach.

I was so far behind them, that at times I felt like giving up, but I pressed on, and finally reached the group as they were on the way back.

After our walk/run, we watched as the brave and determined S. family prepared to take the plunge.

This was as close as I got to going into the water, but I was so proud of the four members of the S. family who ignored the 40' below water temperatures and did what they came to do.

I must say, I do not envy them for the extreme cold they felt when they returned from the water.

Nevertheless, I was overly impressed, with their spirit of determination, and commitment.

And I sensed their feeling of accomplishment and happiness as though almost as though I had been with them in the water.

As we headed back or our hotel with the L. Family, we came upon....

... A dead seagull. Which provided quite the entertainment (thanks to Ross:)
Next came the seagull's extensive burial which left the head visible. (for storytelling purposes:)

Then we headed back on the beautiful trail to our hotel.

Once we arrived, we quickly packed up our cars, and then spent a couple hours talking before heading out to dinner.
After several hours of talking, and fellowship, we gathered for one last group photo.

It certainly was a wonderful conference, and we all enjoyed our time together. I'm so grateful for such encouraging friends, who keep me focused on Christ.

But wait, our trip wasn't over yet, after saying goodbye to the S. family, we headed off to Seaside with the L. Family and enjoyed a nice car ride talking... but mostly sleeping, (sorry I didn't get any pictures:) before we arrived in Seaside. It didn't take long for us to find an open ice cream shop, get some ice cream, and head to the beach. We found a swing set, and like most energetic homeschoolers at 10:30 PM, we enjoyed swinging on it, and seeing how far we could jump from the swings into the sand. Then we all joined in to help Emily draw stick figures of the Duggar family in the sand. Afterwards we made the night complete by swimming for several hours, before heading to bed. The next morning after a good rest, we enjoyed breakfast together, and then headed back home.

We had a wonderful trip, and were so grateful for our time with friends and family!

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, evenChrist:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted
by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure
of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." Ephesians 4:11-16
